The date is useful, but it is not the whole moment
A birth date narrows the possible sky positions to a local civil day. It does not identify a unique instant. The Moon may cross a Nakshatra or sign boundary during that interval, and the ascendant changes much faster. A calculator should therefore distinguish a date-level estimate from a timed chart. The extra precision in a displayed degree does not recover the missing input. Start by finding what remains stable across the day and what does not.
A practical start-and-end check
Use the correct historical time zone and compare the Moon at the beginning and end of the local day. If both share a sign and Nakshatra, some sign- and star-level comparisons may be stable, although the Pada and Dasha balance can still shift. If either broader label changes, a single 36-point score can be misleading. getVEDANGA refuses that boundary-crossing unknown-time matching input rather than choosing whichever possible value produces a convenient score.
What must stay out of an untimed report
Do not claim an exact Lagna, whole-sign house placement or house-based Manglik result from a noon substitute. A midday chart may be explicitly labelled as an illustrative estimate, but its houses are not a recovered fact. The same limit applies when a family knows only morning or evening: that narrows the interval but does not automatically establish one ascendant. A useful report should be able to leave an item unknown without making the whole page look broken.
Improving the record without inventing certainty
Look for an original hospital record, family note or contemporaneous document and record whether it was rounded. Do not change the time just to match a preferred personality description. Retrospective rectification is a separate interpretive process and should not be passed off as a known civil record. If a better time cannot be found, preserve the uncertainty and discuss the traditional comparison in that limited context. Practical relationship decisions still require the people’s own information, values and consent.
A stable sign does not establish a stable Dasha balance
The Moon can remain in one sign and Nakshatra for the possible interval while moving enough to change its fractional progress. Vimshottari uses that fraction to calculate the remaining years of the starting period. An untimed chart can therefore support a broader label while leaving detailed period dates uncertain. Keep these levels of resolution separate. It is inconsistent to acknowledge missing time in one paragraph and then present the same input’s Antardasha dates as if they were independently exact.
Do not confuse a missing input with a negative result
If a calculator cannot evaluate a house-based rule, the result should say not assessed. It should not count the rule as absent, cancelled or unfavourable. Those are three different statements. The same principle applies to an uncertain Nakshatra: a range is not a low score. A report that can express unknown values honestly is more useful than one that fills every cell. It preserves the information you do have without allowing a polished interface to disguise the information you do not.
Try a small learning exercise
Choose a hypothetical pair and record the two Moon longitudes, their Nakshatras and the order of the charts. Copy the eight raw factor scores before looking at the total. Then list each supported exception separately and add only the points that the declared method restores. Check that the adjusted result can be reconstructed from the raw result. Finally, write one sentence about what the score does not measure. This keeps the exercise about understanding a framework rather than turning an unverified label into a decision about two people.
The method used on this site
Chart A uses the traditional groom position and chart B the bride position for directional tables. Vashya uses exact half-sign boundaries. Exception rules vary by school; both raw and adjusted points remain visible. Mars screening is separate from the 36 points.
Frequently asked questions
Is 18 out of 36 a scientific pass mark?
No. It is a commonly cited traditional threshold, not a validated measure of a relationship’s safety or quality. The factors and any adjustments should remain visible.
Why show both raw and adjusted totals?
An exception can change a selected school’s score. Keeping both totals shows exactly what changed instead of hiding the original table result.
Where can I check the calculation used here?
Open the related Kundli Matching · 36 Guna Milan tool and its explanation, then compare the settings with the methodology page. The calculation and its traditional interpretation should not be treated as the same kind of claim.
Is this medical, legal or financial advice?
No. The journal explains cultural and symbolic frameworks. A horoscope, numerological pattern or card draw should not replace appropriate practical evidence or professional help.

Sources have different roles: astronomical documentation supports the calculation, while traditional texts describe a historical framework. A citation does not by itself validate a personal prediction.
